511 Mobile

511 Mobile is a new service for Web-enabled mobile devices (such as a Blackberry^TM) providing access to information on road network conditions in Québec. Just like the Internet, it is accessible worldwide.

By visiting www.quebec511.gouv.qc.ca/mobile, users have access to:

• traffic camera images,
• information on:
• ongoing events throughout the road network (accidents, floods, road closures);
• hindrances related to Roadwork;
• winter road conditions (visibility and road surface conditions);
• wait times at border crossings (passenger and commercial vehicles);
• ferry service availability.

Compatibility

511 Mobile is compatible with most popular devices currently on the market (Blackberry^TM, Palm^TM and Microsoft Windows CE^TM). No special software is required since it uses HTML language.

Content

Themes available for consultation are: Warnings, Road Network Conditions and Traffic Webcams. It is possible to access information in text format by selecting the By Road or By Region options, or to get a general overview by consulting the map of metropolitan areas.

Use of a mobile device behind the wheel

Using a mobile device while operating a vehicle is dangerous. Driving requires your complete attention and concentration. Using such a device behind the wheel constitutes a significant distraction.

A study conducted in Québec has shown that drivers who use cell phones have
a 38% higher risk of being involved in an accident. The risk of committing an offence under the Highway Safety Code (such as running a red light or a stop sign) is also increased.

Transports Québec also reminds you that using a hand-held cell phone while driving, i.e. without a hands-free device or feature, is prohibited.
